WAEC and NECO are most commonly used. WAEC is for the whole West African countries while NECO on the other hand, is a national exam that is organized only for Nigerians.

Both WAEC and NECO serve the same purpose in Nigeria, however, not every Nigerian university entertains applicants with NECO results.

1. University Of Nigeria NSUKKA (UNN)

The University of Nigeria, Nsukka is the most prestigious university in south-eastern Nigeria. It was founded in 1955 by Nnamdi Azikiwe, and commenced fully in 1960.

UNN has four campuses namely; Enugu campus, Nsukka campus, Aba campus and Ituku-Ozalla campus.

The University of Nigeria Nsukka is one of the few universities that accept applicants with only NECO results or a mixture of WAEC and NECO.

2. Obafemi Awolowo University Ile-Ife (OAU)

Obafemi Awolowo University is located in the heart of the city of Ile-Ife, Osun state. It is owned by the federal government of Nigeria.

Obafemi Awolowo University also known as great life was established in 1961 but there was academic activities.

Obafemi Awolowo University started full academic activities in 1962. When Obafemi Awolowo University started, the school had just eight faculties which has been increased to 13 faculties.

Students seeking admission into Obafemi Awolowo University can present their NECO results or a mixture of WAEC and NECO results.

Lastly, Obefemi Awolowo University is one of the few Universities to study dentistry & dental surgery in Nigeria

3. UNiversity Of Ibadan (UI)

The University of Ibadan was established in 1948 with its Location in the city of Ibadan, Oyo state, Nigeria. It is the oldest  and first university in Nigeria to have the electron microscop.

Presently, the University of Ibadan has 10 faculties, they are the faculty of Arts, Public Health, Agriculture, Forestry, Dentistry, Vertinary Medicine, Law, Dentistry, Technology, Arts and Science, Pharmacy and the college of medicine.

The University of Ibadan accepts applicants with both WAEC and NECO results.

4. University Uyo (UNIUYO)

The University of Uyo has a total 13 faculties. It is located in Uyo, the capital city of Akwaibom. It was named University of Uyo and changed to a federal university in 1991.

This university accepts applicants with NECO results.

5. University Of Abuja (UNIABUJA)

The University of Abuja was founded in 1988, it is located in Abuja, the capital city of Nigeria.

The university of Abuja has 12 faculties, they are

7. Nnmamdi Azikiwe University Awka

Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka is one of the oldest universities in south eastern Nigeria with a population of about 25,000.

Named after the late Nnamdi Azikiwe, This former state university is one of the few universities in southeastern Nigeria that offers a variety of courses. It currently has three campuses, one in Awka and the other in Nnewi and the third at Agulu.

With 7 faculties and 39 courses available, Kaduna state university gives applicants the option if a wide variety of courses.

Kaduna state university has two campuses, they are located in Kaduna and Kafanchan.

10. Tai Solarin University (TSU)

The school is situated in Ijebu ode, Ogun state, Tai Solarin University of education us Nigeria’s first university of education. It was named after Tai Solarin, Nigeria’s human right activist and educational administrator.

11. Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria (ABU)

The Ahmadu Bello University is one of the oldest and prestigious in Nigeria, founded in 1962 by the Federal government.

ABU, Zaria has two campuses namely; are Samaru and Kongo.

This university is named after the first premier of northern Nigeria, Alhaji Sir Ahmadu Bello.
